It was very difficult for me, too, to make a decision about pursuing grad school or staying home with my little ones. But in the end I decided, I can go back to grad school later. And you are right, the first few years of our childrens' lives are so important!!!

Thanks for posting this!! Thank you!

I love this post! I've been having a lot of discussions with people lately since I've been wanting to get back out there to working in the adult world. Actually I'm wanting to get back to college to finish my dusty partial degree! Wish my husband was like "The Dude".... sounds like they couldn't be more different... lol

Well said! I'm a femenist housewife too!! :)) and hubby was well aware of my limited knowledge of cleaning, cooking, etc before we got married. My mom would remind him everytime she saw him before the wedding "she can't do anything but she is independent and will be a good team player" I can still hear her say it :)) oh and there is no returns!! Lol

Loved this – I so agree with the fact that there are no rules – it has to work in your house for it to be right – My grandma and mother are constantly chiding me for not doing this or that – but I know that we are in a new era – I am so in love with my Hubby – when I cook – he does the dishes – it works for us!

I wouldn’t call myself a feminist, but I loved this post just the same. The thing I kinda crack up at is when I meet younger, unmarried, working girls. Who outright *sneer* when I tell them I’m a SAHM. When I get past the urgent desire to scratch out their eyes, I explain that “Sweetie…I have a college degree. I wore Calvin Klein suits and stilletos. I managed multi million dollar projects and gave slick PowerPoint presentations. And now, I change diapers, wipe tears, and make PB&Js. And someday, when your tight little body extends to epic proportions, and spit out that squirming bloody little being, and then 12 weeks later are told to leave that child somewhere else…I’m here to tell you…those pencil skirts and briefcases may make it to the office with you, but your heart will always long to be home with a puking, pooping, whining child. Promise.” :)

I recently quit my job and became a SAHM myself. Like you, I do not feel that I have de-valued myself in this new role. Both my husband and I contribute to our household, just in different ways.
My take on the whole work/mom/life balance thing is this, women can have it all, but not all at once. Something has always got to give.
As you said above, work/career will always be there and I intend to return to the workplace as well. But I'm glad I'm taking this break to give my son extra time and attention during his first year of kindergarten.
If you'd like to read more about my decision and my transition, you can check out this post of mine called On Hiatus:
