When I decided to forgo the Catholic in Cashew, I also believed that I needed to ignore all that went with it, including Christian holidays. My Catholic family had no problem with any of it until I stopped wanting to participate in Christmas. It really was a conflict for me and I believed they just didn't get it. I finally understand that they weren't upset because I didn't celebrate the holiday, it was because they just wanted me to be there with them and help them celebrate. And, yeah, we have to work on that whole "spoiling" issue. My 3 year old is finally getting it! Thank you for sharing that, Jack, especially since I can relate so well!

We went round and round about why I refused to have any sort of acknowledgment of Christmas in my house. Caused some really hard feelings. Years later I understand that I played a much bigger role in that than I realized, but I digress. These days we have Chanukah celebrations at home with friends and family. On Christmas we usually end up at a friend's house to help them celebrate. The kids get something every day, but they aren't all big gifts. Don't want to spoil them too badly. I don’t know how I missed the cashew post! My kids are cashews! I’m Catholic and the hubs is Jewish. We have always called it hanumas since Hanukkah sometimes comes before Christmas. I need to work on incorporating more Hanukkah decor with our Christmas decor although we still don’t have our Hanukkah Bush up yet! I love this! I don’t know how I missed the cashew post!
