This is brilliant. The iPhone is a lifesaver when it comes to must-keep-kid-entertained-or-else. Another one my stepson loves is koi pond. Congrats on being a SITS featured blogger. Following :)

I have no doubt that parents from earlier generations were shocked when parents planted their kids in front of radios and TV's. I remember my grandparents shock when they saw their grandchildren play with video games in the 1980's.

Every generation has their version of new advancements in technology that may not have been geared towards children specifically, but end up in their hands anyways. I think it's a good thing. Children today will be exposed to these advancements and I don't find it scary at all. Just like with excellent TV programming, DVD's, and the Internet, these new products can be used as valuable tools for education and entertainment.

Thanks for your comment.

Just like any other technological device introduced to my child (TV, video games, DVD's, computers, etc...) we use iphone apps as a means for distraction, entertainment, and education for a brief period of time and with parental supervision. I don't believe families have raised children on *normal conversation * alone since about the invention of the radio.

Goodness me! Whatever happened to banging pots and pans?! LOL! Everything is so "techo" today even for babies. That's really scary. Of course it is also very neat as far as the "educational" value. What is scary to me is the fact that I used to say society is making "kids" grow up too fast because of the implementation of calculators, ( now kids couldn't do regular math the long way if they wanted to), computers, (now kids wouldn't know how to go to the library and use a card catalog, or do manual research) and now IPhone Apps for babies. What's next? It's so scary. Pretty soon, a baby will be able to start school as soon as they start walking and talking. What happened to childhood? As you can probably tell, I have no children or grandchildren, or I would probably be saying Yay! Give me MORE! LOL! I just can't get over "babies using the phone," and seeing I'm Susie and I'm a PC on television. I guess I'm totally OLD FASHION. I'm still in the pots and pans and stick horse era. Haha! Great post though. I love posts that get my brain working and take me back to the "good old days".
