Yeah, gender is what most people are seeking and making arrangements in terms of the things needed after giving birth. For me, I love having twins. A boy and a girl to stop the presumptions for both our families.
If so, case closed.

I am so excited for you, Ellie! Congrats to you and your husband!

I can't believe I forgot to add the "is it a boy or a girl?!?" question to the list. I'm sure it's the number one question asked of every pregnant woman. I never did find out when I was pregnant the first time, which drove people (even strangers) crazy! And, of course, people then decided to guess on my behalf. I can't tell you how many times people wrongly guessed "girl" simply based on the way I was carrying. Ridiculous!

I hope you're enjoying pregnant life and can get through January with minimal obnoxious comments/questions from others. :)

Hi Amy, great post. I too am pregnant, due in January. One thing you can add to this list of things not to say (at least immediately) is "Do you know if it's a boy or a girl? Are you going to find out?" I've been surprised at how fixated people are with the gender, as if it even matters. Some people even ask about the gender before saying "Congratulations" or anything that shares happiness. Like you say, we just want a healthy baby. I totally agree with you in that upon finding out that a woman is pregnant, a person should just give congrats and happiness, show some concern for her wellbeing, and leave space for her to lead the dialogue from there.
